CECOS Foundation Registered charity in England and Wales

Making grants to relieve poverty, advance education and protect good health.

CECOS Foundation is a grant-making charity registered in England and Wales. We do not deliver services ourselves. We fund constituted charitable organisations that do.

Registered Charity No. 1186889  ·  Company No. 11597070

Our purpose

The objects of the Foundation, as recorded on the Register of Charities, are mainly to make grants to relieve poverty, advance education, and preserve and protect good health.

The Register classifies the Foundation as working for general charitable purposes, helping other charities and voluntary bodies, and doing so by making grants to organisations. That describes how we work: we are a funder, not an operator. We look for established organisations with a demonstrable record of delivery, proper governance and independently audited accounts, and we support them to build the things they cannot fund from day-to-day income.

Our particular interests follow our objects — healthcare for people who cannot afford it, education for children who would otherwise go without, and support for people living with disability.

Grant-making

We make grants for capital development — land, buildings and permanent facilities — rather than for running costs. There is a reason for that emphasis. A building funded once serves a community for decades, and it leaves the recipient organisation owning an asset rather than depending on a recurring grant.

Who we fund

Constituted, registered organisations with audited accounts and a record of delivery. We do not make grants to individuals.

What we fund

Capital development of healthcare and education facilities. Assets created vest in the recipient organisation.

How we work

Funds are released against annual plans and progress reports, with independent certification of construction milestones.

Current programme

The Foundation is supporting the capital development of healthcare and education facilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, in partnership with a welfare society registered there which operates a free neurological rehabilitation centre and a free school for underprivileged children. The programme is subject to the regulatory approvals required in Pakistan for the receipt of foreign contributions.

We do not accept unsolicited grant applications. The Foundation works with a small number of partner organisations known to its trustees, and its funds are committed for the periods covered by its existing undertakings.

Governance

The Foundation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 1 October 2018 and entered on the Register of Charities on 11 December 2019. It is governed by a board of three trustees, each appointed on 1 October 2018.

Reporting

The Foundation’s reporting to the Charity Commission is up to date. Its entry on the Register of Charities, including its governing document, trustees and financial history, may be inspected at register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk, and its company filings at Companies House.

How we are funded

The Foundation does not conduct public fundraising appeals. It does not solicit or accept donations from the general public, does not carry out street or door-to-door collections, and does not use third-party fundraising agents.

Its funds are derived from donations made by CECOS Computing International Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (no. 07075986) which provides technical and vocational education and whose provision is inspected by Ofsted. The company donates its surpluses to the Foundation for application to charitable purposes.

Every pound the Foundation receives is therefore traceable to a single identified, regulated source. Grants are paid through banking channels to the designated accounts of recipient organisations, and are subject to reporting and independent audit.
